Learning Outcomes

Assurance of Learning: M.S. in Criminal Justice

Mission Statement:  The Master of Science in Criminal Justice program prepares students for success, either as employees in criminal justice fields or in their pursuit of post-graduate education. The program broadens students鈥 knowledge of the causes, consequences, and responses to crime and how crime is interrelated to other fields within the social sciences. We emphasize an applied education that integrates academic and professional skills, developing students鈥 analytical and intellectual skills so that they may apply the knowledge they have learned.

 

Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the M.S. in Criminal Justice program:

Students will be able to assess the relevance of historical and current criminological theories to contemporary public policy.

Students will be able to apply management skills such as strategic planning, forecasting, and program evaluation within criminal justice agencies.

Students will be able to propose solutions to contemporary problems in the criminal justice system that are grounded in 鈥渂est practices鈥 as demonstrated within the field.

Students will be able to apply analytical skills necessary for future employment and/or post-graduate studies in the social sciences.

Students will be able to communicate to key stakeholders in both writing and through presentations.
