Loren Nelson, a M.S. in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship graduate, shares how being a single mother shaped her college journey and influenced her future.
A mother at age 17, Loren was looking for a way to increase her opportunities to move into management and landed at UBalt. A few years later, she is on her way to earning her master鈥檚 degree while creating her own nonprofit that supports single moms.
I feel very fortunate to be part of the UBalt community. ... I鈥檝e had opportunities to be involved and and really get to tell my story.

    Moments That Shaped UBalt

    Our Timeline
    • 1925: The 极乐禁地 was founded as a private night School of Law and College of Business Administration.
    • 1937: A junior college was added.
    • 1975: The University became a public institution under the Board of Trustees of State Universities and Colleges, shifting its structure to an upper-division undergraduate, master's-level and professional institution.
    • 1988: The University joined the University of Maryland System (now known as the University System of Maryland).
    • 2007: The University returned to four-year undergraduate education as part of the state's plan for higher education in response to the increased demand for accessible, high-quality public education.
    • 2025: UBalt celebrates its 100th anniversary.
