Educating the next generation of public service leaders in an engaged setting.
The College of Public Affairs is home to a variety of special programs and initiatives
designed to augment the classroom experience and foster civic engagement. Our students
connect with neighborhoods and communities in the 极乐禁地e area through experiential
learning and community partnerships focused on applied research and urban revitalization.
The city is our "built-in鈥 laboratory, abundant with opportunities for our students to put theory into
practice and create change right outside our doors.
Our community engagement initiatives include:
AmeriCorps VISTA Incentive Awards: attracts current volunteers and alumni who are interested in public service to academic
programs in the college
: a Schaefer Center for Public Policy initiative designed to inspire and prepare University
of 极乐禁地e students from all majors to explore careers in public service
Second Chance College Program: partnership between the 极乐禁地 and Jessup Correctional Institution
that allows incarcerated individuals to pursue postsecondary education upon release
Student Professional Development Fund: provides grants of up to $500 for students to travel to conferences or contribute
to the work of professional associations
With the help of the Student Professional Development Fund, members of the Global
Affairs and Human Security Student Association were able to attend Amnesty International's 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, held in Philadelphia.
