For any graduates planning to graduate in the summer or fall terms, please see review our important information about commencement. 

What is the difference between Commencement and Graduation?

• Commencement specifically refers to the ceremony, planned by the Center for Student Engagement and Inclusion, where students can share the joy and excitement of their academic accomplishment with peers, family and friends. It is also a time for the university, president, deans, faculty, and staff to appreciate students for their outstanding efforts in completing their degree requirements. Participation in the commencement ceremony is not a guarantee of degree completion and official degrees are not awarded as a part of the commencement ceremony.
• Graduation is the process of submitting an online application that confirms all academic requirements for your degree and financial obligations to the institution have been completed. The Office of Records and Registration oversees this process. To officially graduate from UBalt, you must apply for graduation by the posted deadline. You will apply during the semester that you are finalizing your credits. You will pay the associated fee ($30 for undergraduate students and $40 for graduate/doctoral students, fees subject to change) through  (see this helpful guide for how to complete the form).
  

Once your registration is successfully completed, you will receive a notification through your UBalt email account. Please review the information immediately and notify the Office of Records and Registration if any information is incorrect. Students who apply, pay their graduation fee at the Bursars office or through their MyUBalt Portal, and are marked as 'Conditionally Approved, 'Program in Review', or 'Degree Awarded' will be a part of the listing of students eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. All these students will be emailed multiple times each semester regarding need to know information. Review . 

 

Double check your address on the MyUBalt portal. Once final grades are posted, classes are reviewed, honors determined, accounts checked, etc., through the Office of Records and Registration, your degree will be ordered and sent directly to the local address as noted on MyUBalt. This process usually takes between six and eight weeks. 

Please note: All students who anticipate graduating must complete this step to be considered a UBalt graduate and receive a diploma.

 

Commencement Ceremony Eligibility

Students will be contacted with all information via their UBalt email address. There is an appeal process in place for those students requesting to participate in a different commencement term. This commencement appeal to participate form can only be filled out for the term in which the student is wishing to participate in.

Examples of circumstances which will NOT be considered for early participation include, but are not limited to:

• previous purchase and/or arrangements of out of town/state/country travel
• anticipation of moving out of town/state/country after the upcoming ceremonies
• illnesses of extended family
• undocumented advising errors (please note: students are ultimately responsible for monitoring their progress toward graduation)
• registration of final coursework in the next available semester, following commencement ceremony. 

Important information for students who wish to deviate from standard practice by participating prior to degree completion or outside of their scheduled ceremony:

• Deadline to complete a Commencement Appeal to Participate Form is during the early spring semester.
  
• The is if you are requesting to participate in a different commencement term.
• Please only fill out the for the term in which you are wishing to participate in.
• Please note that if you are approved to participate in an earlier ceremony, you should not apply to Graduate with Records and Registration (as explained above) until the semester that you are taking your final courses.

Latin Honors 

Since final grades will not yet be submitted, current coursework cannot be considered when making the honors determination for the ceremony. Therefore, Latin honors are assigned using the student鈥檚 record from the previous semester. The final designation earned will be awarded based on the student鈥檚 entire record and will appear the official transcript and diploma. Students awarded honors have the appropriate GPA and at least 48 credits earned at The 极乐禁地. For more information about honors, contact the Office of the University Registrar at 410.837.4825.

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.9 GPA and above
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.75
  • Cum Laude: 3.5
