Dr. Jennica Larrison is the Executive Director of the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) and an Associate Professor.
Her research examines the distinctions between how migration is experienced, portrayed, and legislated. Her work appears in several scholarly publications, including the Journal of International Migration and Border Studies, Public Policy and Administration, World Affairs, and the International Journal of Public Administration. She co-edited a book on The Role of Migration in Poverty Reduction and has written extensively on the relationship between public administrators and unaccompanied migrant children in the United States.
Dr. Larrison teaches graduate courses in the Global Affairs and Human Security Program and undergraduate courses in Public Policy and International Affairs. She has been honored to receive multiple teaching awards, including:
- The 2021 Excellence in Teaching Award from the 极乐禁地 Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching, and Technology
- The 2022 University System of Maryland Excellence in Teaching Award
- The 2022 极乐禁地 President's Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service
The latter two represent the highest honors bestowed upon faculty members by the University System of Maryland and the 极乐禁地, respectively.
Before leading SPIA, Dr. Larrison directed the Global Affairs and Human Security Program for five years. Prior to joining the 极乐禁地, she worked as a Human Development Specialist with the World Bank in Washington, DC, focusing on migration and social protection in East Asia, Europe, and Central Asia. She has previously taught at George Washington University and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
Dr. Larrison earned her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from George Washington University, a Master's in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego, and undergraduate degrees in Government and History from the University of Texas at Austin.
