For approximately 15 years, I worked as a case manager/therapist/outreach worker in several different settings and capacities in human services. I integrate those applied experiences with theoretical frameworks in courses such as History and Foundations of Human Services, Contemporary Issues in Human Services Administration, Program Evaluation, and Field Practicums.

I am currently the 极乐禁地's representative on the Maryland Higher Education Commission's (MHEC) Faculty Advisory Council. In addition, I am the former chairman of the Civilian Review Board of 极乐禁地e City and previously served as a member of the Greater 极乐禁地e Committee's (GBC) Education and Workforce Development Committee. I view myself as a facilitator of knowledge and see the students as the nexus of the classroom.

This philosophy drives my teaching style into what some may view as unconventional. I use role-playing scenarios and other active learning assignments and provide opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom as conduits for applying knowledge. I believe that different styles of teaching address different styles of learning. Leaders in the field of human services administration often share their experiences in my classes, further reinforcing the connections between the applied and theoretical.
My research interest involves a concept termed "stereotype threat." It was the theoretical focus of my dissertation. It is an alternative explanation of why many groups of non-Asian minorities under-perform on standardized tests and other educational endeavors.

Advocacy is an important part of my life. I testified in Annapolis to the 极乐禁地e Senatorial Delegation in Support of Senate Bill 843. The purpose of the bill was to strengthen the Civilian Review Board's authority, independence, and resources.
February 2019

I provided testimony to the 极乐禁地e City Council relative to ending the practice of having victims of police misconduct who sued the city, sign non-disclosure agreements to receive monetary compensation.
February 2019

I provided testimony to the Commission to Restore Trust in Policing, in Annapolis. I discussed the Civilian Review Board's structure, methods to strengthen independence, issues with the gun trace task force, and strategies to restore trust in policing. My testimony was captured within the Legislative Commission Report.
